Just returned from a much needed, but brief, vacation. Before going on this break I purchased a Promote Control device for my camera so I could quickly capture a few HDRs. I have to say that it worked out pretty well in combination with a Canon 60D using a Sigma fisheye lens and topped off with PTGui. At any rate I thought I’d share one of the HDR’s and a couple of backplates because I don’t think you can ever have too many HDRs/EXRs! Read on for the goods. ![]()
With the setup I mention above I’m not able to capture huge HDR’s but I can get them in the 5k to possibly 6k size. However since I’m using GPU render engines a lot these days I usually downsize them to 4k or less anyway so that works out fine for me (for now at least). The upside to the Promote Control + camera w/fisheye lense +PTGui is speed. I can capture a 10-stop set of images to build a panoramic HDR from in about seven minutes or less. Then I simply dump all the images into PTGui and let it stitch & create the HDR without much hassle at all. If you want to create your own HDRs/EXRs then I highly recommend both the Promote Control and PTGui.
At any rate, you can download the HDR and backplates HERE. – I only included two backplates and the HDR is “ok” but I didn’t spend any time removing my tripod legs or optimizing it (so don’t expect much). For reference I rendered the image below using the included HDR and a different backplate (click the image for larger size).
Have fun with the HDR & plates and if you render something cool with it, please let me know!
